Responsible Choice

We've hand-selected a range of tours and stays across the world that go above and beyond to be a force for good by supporting local businesses, educating staff, challenging local norms, or promoting conservation and biodiversity efforts. Your Responsible Choice helps increase the positive impact of your trip.

Surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Canadian Rockies and set between two emerald lakes, the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is situated just outside Jasper town. Deer and elk graze peacefully in the woods and the traditional, log cabin design blends gracefully into the surroundings.

Although the resort is not as decadent as Fairmont's other properties, it is the premier accommodation option in the area and has a wide range of facilities and activities. There's a good choice of rooms from simple Fairmont Rooms with modern, corporate-style decor to Lakeview Suites with glorious views and speciality cabins with up to eight bedrooms. Some rooms are bright and contemporary while others are more rustic with stone fireplaces or wood-burning stoves.

There is also a good selection of dining options onsite, from the Moose's Nook Chophouse to an Italian trattoria, sushi bar and the award-winning Edith Cavell fine-dining restaurant.

The resort has its own 18-hole golf course, a lakefront swimming pool, a variety of water sports and horse riding. The hotel spa is regarded as one of the finest in Canada and the lodge is conveniently situated to discover Jasper National Park with hiking, fishing, climbing and skiing nearby.

OUR OPINION:

This vast lodge is located in a dramatic setting at the heart of Jasper National Park, and is a convenient base from which to explore the park's wider reaches.

Rooms

Jasper Park Lodge has over 400 guest rooms in the Main Lodge as well as ten Signature Cabins in the wooded grounds. The rooms, suites and cabins are all spacious and comfortable with simple, modern decor in a palette of neutral tones. Most rooms offer dramatic views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains, emerald lakes or dense forests and all have large bathrooms, cable TV and Wi-Fi (with a daily fee). For families or larger groups some of the cabins have up to eight bedrooms, giving a more homely, chalet feel.

Location

Conveniently close to Jasper town yet far away enough to feel like you’re in the middle of the Canadian wilderness, the lodge sits in generous grounds on the far side of the Athabasca River. A ten-minute shuttle takes guests into the town, while Jasper National Park with its dramatic scenery and diverse activities surrounds the hotel.

Food and drink

There are eight on-site restaurants at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge covering a range of cooking styles and offering varying surroundings. Orso, the Italian trattoria, offers sweeping views of the lake and mountains through enormous windows. Moose's Nook Chophouse is more intimate and serves wild game, organic meats and local seafood, while Oka Sushi has a menu of classic Japanese dishes. Lighter meals are served in the Emerald Lounge, while there's a seasonal barbecue and more dramatic views on Thompson's Terrace. Guests can also request a private barbecue outside your cabin.

Families

Jasper Park Lodge is a great location for families. There's an abundance of activities with kayaking, riding and skiing nearby. There are regular activities for teens and young children, as well as babysitting services. Children under five eat for free and meals for 6 to 12 year olds are half price.

Facilities and activities

The lodge has a heated outdoor lakeside pool and a highly-regarded spa, consistently rated as one of the best in Canada. The lodge also has its own golf club, health club, bike hire and a boat house with canoes, kayaks and paddleboards. There's a riding stable on site, and hiking, fishing, white-water rafting, climbing and skiing all available nearby.

Accessibility

Jasper Park Lodge has two accessible rooms in the Main Building featuring roll-in showers, lowered counters and safety rails for those who are less mobile.

Environmental and social responsibility

The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has earned a coveted five out of five Green Keys for their efforts in sustainability including a partnership with the local high school, donating to Plant for Planet, participating in several community projects, and using fully recycled bathroom amenity bottles that can be recycled over and over again.
