Yacht Charters in Saint Lucia : The Moorings 5800 Sail Catamaran

Saint Lucia’s coastline is a jumble of secluded coves, long stretches of sweeping sand and steep, rainforest-clad cliffs to the south. One of the best ways to appreciate the range of scenery is by boat, where you can easily hop between the golden beaches of the north and the silver sands of the south, as well as discovering spots that would otherwise be inaccessible.

There’s also the opportunity to step ashore to hike among the Pitons, Saint Lucia’s two volcanic spires, visit the botanical gardens or tour a chocolate factory. When you’ve taken in Saint Lucia, you’re free to sail onward toward St Vincent and the Grenadines.

On the 5800 Sail Catamaran, there’s no set itinerary, although your skipper is on hand to recommend places to visit and make sure you make the most of your time. He can share his local knowledge to help you find a secluded snorkelling spot or suggest the best mooring to watch the sunset.

Larger than its sister boat the 4800, the main deck has a good-sized air-conditioned saloon which leads out onto an outdoor dining area at the stern. The fly bridge above is kitted out with lounge seating and a grill and wet bar where your on-board cook can prepare fresh-grilled hors d'oeuvres while you enjoy views across the Caribbean Sea. Below, there’s a hydraulic swim platform for easy access into the water.

Cabins

All cabins are air-conditioned, with their own en suite with shower, toilet and wash basin. While they can’t be described as spacious, they have been carefully designed to feel roomier than cabins usually found on a vessel of this size. There are two different models of the 5800, enabling you to pick a layout that suits your family or group of friends.

The Legacy sleeps up to ten passengers. There are two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom below deck, as well as a separate crew cabin. Two further double bedrooms are on the main deck, just off the saloon. These rooms have views out the front through French doors that open out into a small seating area.

The Master also sleeps up to ten passengers. On the main deck there are two double bedrooms as per the Legacy. Below deck one of the double bedrooms has been re-designed so that the bed faces the window, for panoramic ocean views. Another double bedroom is slightly larger with an extended bathroom.

Dining

• Saint Lucia is particularly renowned for its seafood which can be enjoyed in a sophisticated fine-dining restaurant or at a beach barbecue — either way it’s delicious 

Routes

Your catamaran will be waiting for you in Rodney Bay, on the north side of Saint Lucia. Here you’ll find an assemblage of boutiques, bars and cafés, and the fishing village of Gros Islet to the north. From Rodney Bay, the route’s down to you. As an expert in the area, your skipper can recommend where to go, whether you’re looking for a restaurant-filled marina or a deserted stretch of sand.

You could spend your time in Saint Lucia’s waters, sojourning ashore to sightsee, walk the beaches or try some local cuisine, but the beauty of sailing is that you’re free to island-hop through the Caribbean. North of Saint Lucia is the nearby island of Martinique, or you can continue south to St Vincent and the Grenadines.
