Villa Soro

Villa Soro

San Sebastián, Spain

Housed in a 19th-century mansion that once belonged to an aristocratic Basque family, Villa Soro is now a protected Site of Historical Heritage in San Sebastián. The large entrance hall and comfortable drawing room recall its days as a family home with the intimate atmosphere permeating throughout the hotel.

The 25 rooms are split between the main manor house and the converted stable annex behind. The decor in the guest rooms is classical and traditional with some featuring antiques, but all provide modern comforts such as coffee machines, air conditioning and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Breakfast is served in a breakfast room lined with decorative wood panels which opens onto a small terrace in fine weather. There is no on-site restaurant, but the hotel can provide a small room service dinner menu. The three-Michelin-starred restaurant Arzak is about a 15-minute walk away, or you could walk into the heart of San Sebastián in about 20 minutes. The hotel is also about a 15-minute walk from Zurriola Beach.

OUR OPINION:

Classical and elegant, we find the Villa Soro to be a particularly welcoming property that feels much more like a family home than a hotel.

Rooms

Rooms are comfortable and feature the same classic style that the original family owners would have enjoyed, though updated to include modern comforts such as coffee machines, air conditioning and complimentary Wi-Fi. Rooms in the converted stable annex are slightly more modern in decor, while the rooms in the main house offer more traditional features. Some rooms also feature private balconies or terraces.

Location

Situated just outside the heart of San Sebastián, Villa Soro is located in an affluent residential area that is still easily accessible. Central San Sebastián is just a seven-minute taxi ride away while Zurriola Beach can be reached in 15 minutes on foot. The hotel also has bikes available to borrow free of charge for exploring the city.

Food and drink

A buffet breakfast is served in the traditional breakfast room which has wood panels adorning the walls and an attached terrace that is open in fine weather. The hotel does not offer lunch, though a small room service dinner menu can be provided upon request. However, the hotel is not far from the heart of San Sebastián, whose restaurants share a combined 16 Michelin stars.

Facilities and activities

The hotel features a small but fully-equipped gym that guests may make use of during their stay. Reception is also happy to lend towels to use at the nearby beach, or bikes to ride into central San Sebastián.
