Caiman

The Pantanal, Brazil

Caiman is situated in Brazil's southern Pantanal, 241 km (150 miles) west of Campo Grande. A region of astonishing beauty and biodiversity, the Pantanal is the world's largest wetland and home to species including capybara, giant anteaters, caiman, and the elusive jaguar.

In addition to a dazzling array of flora and fauna, the refuge is also home to Casa Caiman, which features 18 luxurious suites surrounded by extensive gardens. All the suites have Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and outdoor terraces overlooking the beautiful surroundings. There is also a swimming pool and gym, and in the evenings the outdoor area, complete with firepits, is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. As well as Casa Caiman, Villa Baiazinha is available for private rental.

Guests will venture out with a dedicated guide on a shared basis with other guests. Stays at Caiman typically include opportunities for bush walks, canoeing, and driving safaris. Activities are determined on the day and are based on the local conditions. Meals are served at set times and feature a variety of high-standard options, served buffet-style in communal dining areas.

The refuge runs several important conservation initiatives, including two particularly successful projects focusing on the large local population of hyacinth macaws and jaguars, which guests can get involved with if they wish. Both of these rare species are frequently sighted during excursions on the reserve, and during the dry season the Caiman lodges boast an astonishing 90% success rate for guests wishing to see jaguars in the wild.
