Kuching Cooking Lesson
A Malay, Indian or Chinese family living in Kuching will invite you into their home and show you how to make traditional local food.
This is a great experience for nature lovers and the adventurous. After a 40-minute drive from town you arrive at the mist covered hillsides around Bengoh, a delightful Bidayuh village. Here you meet the rest of your group and are given paddling instructions and a safety briefing before proceeding down some steps to a small tributary where your kayaks await. This shaded stream with overhanging trees, steep banks and a bridge overhead has just enough room for your kayaks to get through and meanders a short distance before opening into the vista of Sungai Sarawak Kiri.
Alight at Kg Danu village to explore on foot with the chance to purchase seasonal fruits, the most popular being 'the king of fruits' — the durian! Continue paddling through lush vegetation and through level 1 or 2 (depending on the water volume and flow) rapids before stopping by a sandy bank beneath soaring limestone cliffs. You have free time for swimming and a lunch break (barbecue lunch provided).
Having paddled back to your starting point you will be driven back to Kuching.
Only moderate fitness is required and if you decide to bring your camera please ensure you take water proofing.
