Cacao Plantation Tour
Cacao Plantation Tour
Visit a working cacao plantation and enjoy a guided tour, learning about the whole process of turning Costa Rican cacao beans into one of mankind's favorite foods — chocolate.
Hacienda Pozo Azul is one of the best places around Sarapiqui for horse riding.
For years the owners and operators of Hacienda Pozo Azul, the Quintana family, have been horse lovers, a very traditional and popular activity in Costa Rica. They have been breeding horses for three generations using the spirited, soft riding Costa Rican Paso horses and strong Spanish Andalusian horses, and lately quarter horses. Their knowledge, experience, guides and their well looked after horses ensure the best possible experience.
Many Costa Ricans will tell you that the horse is the ultimate "all terrain vehicle" and that the best, most comfortable way to experience the rainforest is on the back of a well-trained horse!
This ride will last around two hours and will start with a safety briefing where you will be given helmets, rain ponchos and leggings if you are wearing shorts. The ride follows trails over pastureland, through the rainforest and across rivers.
Other activities at Hacienda Pozo Azul include white-water rafting, zip-lining, mountain biking and rappelling. All can be combined with the horse riding. There is also birdwatching, a modern 300 cow dairy and a butterfly farm.
These activities are designed to give you the most authentic experiences around where you're staying. We work with local guides, who use their knowledge and often a resident's eye to show you the main sights and more out-of-the-way attractions. Our specialists can suggest tours and activities that will introduce you to the local ways of life.

Sarapiqui River Rafting
This trip takes in some of the best grade II and III rafting on the Sarapiqui River and offers a more gentle rafting experience than some of the other river trips in Costa Rica. Wildlife such as toucans, cormorants, kingfishers and howler monkeys can be spotted along the water's edge.
You can enjoy this activity as part of the suggested tour below, or we can weave it into a trip shaped entirely around you.
