Mawamba Lodge

Mawamba Lodge is situated on a thin strip of land between Tortuguero's canals and the Caribbean Sea, meaning it rather uniquely boasts a rugged beachfront of dark golden sand, home to nesting green turtles during the rainy season.

The accommodation consists of 50 standard rooms (named either as Congo or Jacana bungalows) and 6 superior rooms (named as King Jaguar rooms). All rooms are simple but comfortable with private bathrooms, hot water and ceiling fans (no air-conditioning). There is a good swimming pool with a Jacuzzi, and plenty of comfortable spaces to relax around the tropical grounds. Jutting out into the waterways is a decking area strung with hammocks; the perfect spot for enjoying a relaxing sunset. Meals at the La Macarela restaurant are served à la carte. There is also the Katonga floating restaurant, available for breakfast, lunch and dinner, though this must be reserved in advance.
