Once a major centre in the cross-desert caravan trade, this medieval city remains very atmospheric.

Junagarh Fort

Below the dominating bulk of Junagarh Fort you will still find camel carts weaving through the narrow alleyways while the interior of the fort displays exquisite mirror and glass inlays, carpets, carvings and shell work.

Karni Mata or 'Rat Temple'

Just south of the city is the intriguing Karni Mata or 'Rat Temple'. The temple dates back to the 17th century, and hundreds of rats and mice are fed and honoured here in the belief that they are reincarnated saints.
