Itinerary idea
Includes international flights from a choice of UK airports, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
-
Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Lilongwe.
-
On arrival at Lilongwe Airport, you will be met by your driver, who will take you to your guesthouse in Lilongwe for the night.
-
You will leave Lilongwe today and enjoy a wonderful drive, taking in the varied landscapes of rural Malawi. Following the course of the Shire River, you will enter the Liwonde National Park. From here, things become gradually more wild and remote before you arrive at the Mvuu Camp for your three-night stay.
-
A full day to enjoy the wildlife on offer from Mvuu Camp. In the national park, you will see hippos, elephants, impalas and crocodiles, plus some wonderful birdlife as well as less common mammals such as the warthog.
-
Another packed day of safari activities from Mvuu. There is a protected area of the national park where black rhinos have been introduced. Another undoubted highlight is taking a river cruise on the Shire, offering a different perspective from which to view the excellent wildlife.
-
You will leave Liwonde today as you drive to Cape Maclear, a lovely journey that takes you through lots of rural Malawi. Once at the lakeshore, you will stay at Norman Carr Cottage for the next three nights.
-
There are a number of water sports you can participate in at Norman Carr Cottage including snorkelling, canoeing and water-skiing.
-
Today, you can explore the area further on a guided village walk, giving you a great insight into day-to-day life in Malawi.
-
In the morning, you will be driven to Cape Maclear boat jetty. Here you can choose to either kayak for around an hour or enjoy a short boat transfer to Mumbo Island. On this gorgeous, unspoiled island you will spend two nights in a comfortable en suite tent.
-
On Mumbo Island you are provided with your own kayak and snorkelling equipment. Lake Malawi is at its beautiful best here, you can spend the day swimming, paddling and looking for some of the many species of brilliantly coloured fish.
-
Diving in Lake Malawi is a unique experience and can be set up in advance of your stay should you wish. Alternatively, there are some fabulous walks around Mumbo Island — it has never been populated and remains largely unspoilt. Spend the day exploring the stunning fig, baobab and miombo woodland.
-
You will catch the boat back to Cape Maclear this morning for your transfer back to Lilongwe and your onward flights.
-
Arrive home today to complete your journey.
