Glacier Boat Cruise
Glacier Boat Cruise
This three-hour tour of Lake Tasman, and the front edge of New Zealand's largest glacier, is a unique opportunity to learn about this incredible remnant of the Ice Age.
From the foothills of Mount Cook National Park you can take a spectacular scenic ski-plane flight which will take you up the length of the Tasman Glacier before landing on the newly fallen snow near the top. Your pilot will point out the impressive geographical features of a rarely-visited glacier that you simply would not see were you just to approach it on foot.
Landing on the glacier itself you have time to take photos and absorb the incredible scenery. One of the biggest surprises in this all-white environment is the total distortion of scale — when you land next to what had seemed a small stone below, you will realise that it is a boulder many times the size of your plane.
These activities are designed to give you the most authentic experiences around where you're staying. We work with local guides, who use their knowledge and often a resident's eye to show you the main sights and more out-of-the-way attractions. Our specialists can suggest tours and activities that will introduce you to the local ways of life.
