As with any major city there are a number of very good museums in Cape Town and you might like to visit some whilst you are here. Some of the ones that we personally recommend are District Six Museum, Gold of Africa Museum, and the Iziko Museums of Cape Town.
District Six Museum: This area of Cape Town was home to nearly a tenth of the population in Cape Town until in 1965 it was declared a "white" area. More than 60,000 people were forced to move. The museum tells the story of this and also wants to keep alive the memories of the displaced people.
Gold of Africa Museum: The museum is especially good for evening tours with a glass of sparkling wine complete with gold leaf. The museum exhibits the ancient and sometimes mythical relationship Africa has had with gold.
Iziko is the collective name for a number of museums in and around Cape Town. They range from natural and social history museums as well as having an impressive art collection.
