Kerry-Ann

Italy & Middle East Specialist

Having been in awe of her mother’s adventurous travel tales, Kerry's passion for exploring new places started at a young age with frequent trips to see family in New Zealand. Brought up in London, UK, Kerry studied Italian at school and later went on to read Arabic & International Relations at the University of Leeds in the north of England.

Living in Morocco for two years ignited Kerry's passion for Arabic art, architecture and history. Later she traveled to Egypt where she fell in love with ancient Egyptian sites.

Kerry joined the Audley team in the UK in 2014 as a North Africa and Middle East Specialist. She was determined to create itineraries for her clients that would leave them with lasting memories of her beloved region. She then came over to Audley’s Boston US office in 2017, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and passion for the Middle East and also her favorite European destination, Italy.

Today, Kerry looks after trips to Italy, Morocco, Egypt, Jordan and Israel. In her free time, she enjoys cocktails with friends and exploring what her new home, the US, has to offer.

Piazza Archimede, Syracuse

I recommend visiting - Syracuse, Italy

I love the city of Syracuse in the South of Sicily as it has so much to offer. From Ancient Greek ruins to stunning baroque churches, Syracuse is one of the prettiest and most laid back places I discovered on the island.

I love strolling the narrow medieval lanes of Ortygia, the oldest part of the city where you find the Piazza del Duomo, a fantastic place to grab an aperitivo and do some people watching. There is also a daily market which offers fresh produce, and there are some great places to eat the local delicacies like arancini and pananelle.

Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni, Florence

I recommend staying at - Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni 1, Tuscany

First Class

Italy is chock-full of amazing hotels, but Antica Torre in Florence really stands out as a gem. It’s on the banks of the River Arno between the Ponte Vecchio and, importantly, my favorite gelato shop in the town (La Carraia).

The Duomo is a five-minute walk north too. Then there's the hotel rooms, I love choosing between staying in a 19th-century palace or a 14th-century tower. However, my favorite part of all is undoubtedly the roof terrace; it’s solely for the use of hotel guests, so you can sip your evening Chianti watching the sunset away from the busy streets below.

I'll never forget when…

You have not seen Rome until you see it from the back of a Vespa. As a pedestrian in Rome, just crossing the road can often pose something of a challenge, so I was understandably nervous about the prospect of spending three hours enveloped within the maelstrom of exhausts and horns on my evening tour of the city by Vespa.

I needn't have worried. My guide expertly wove his way through the lines of cars, chatting merrily to other drivers as we went, and pointing out many sights of interest that I simply hadn't noticed when I had been walking the same streets by myself just hours earlier.
