Kandy to Nuwara Eliya by train
The picturesque railway to Nuwara Eliya passes waterfalls and tea plantations, as well as Adam's Peak in the distance.
From Kandy it is around two hours to drive toward Kitulgala for a white-water rafting tour on the Kelaniya Ganga. The Kelaniya Ganga is a stunning river offering some excellent, though relatively gentle, white-water rafting.
The rafting trip itself lasts for around an hour to an hour and a half. Especially in the beginning of your trip, you will come across a few exciting Class 2/3 rapids. Further downstream the river gets a lot gentler and it is just great to sit back, relax and let the amazing landscape pass by.
Just before reaching the end of the tour, you will float past the spot where David Lean filmed the Oscar winning Bridge on the River Kwai in 1957. Those who have seen the movie may well recognize the place and a few of the remains are still visible today.
These activities are designed to give you the most authentic experiences around where you're staying. We work with local guides, who use their knowledge and often a resident's eye to show you the main sights and more out-of-the-way attractions. Our specialists can suggest tours and activities that will introduce you to the local ways of life.
