Chinzombo Camp

Back in the 1970s Chinzombo Camp was Norman Carr's base during the Green Season (November to May). Now this area on the banks of Luangwa River has been given a new lease of life, and Chinzombo is offering a new and unique accommodation in the same pioneering spirit of Norman Carr.

It consists of six spacious villas including a family villa with two en suite bedrooms with a lounge. The whole camp is built within the shade of mahogany and ebony trees. It makes use of natural and modern eco-friendly building materials, mixing a modern style with rustic elements such as reed walls.

Each villa has its own private plunge pool and spacious deck, open plan bedroom, bathroom with bathtub and shower, and canvas walls which can be rolled up to enjoy the views, or down to keep them warm at night. The decor throughout is modern and minimal using raw linen, timber, copper and hand-made crockery to respect the past history of Norman Carr's legacy. The bar features black and white photographs to reflect the camp's history.

The camp is set within 60 acres of private land fronting the Luangwa River. This riverside location teems with wildlife plus it has the added benefit of private, direct access into one of the most game-rich areas of the national park. This combination of flourishing fauna and flora makes Chinzombo Camp a truly special place to either begin or end your safari in the South Luangwa.
