Rooms

Low wooden boardwalks lead to ten large thatch and canvas rooms overlooking the lagoon. The décor has an 'explorer' theme, complete with trunks and large canvas maps. Rooms feature large panoramic mesh windows, big beds with mosquito nets, free standing and ceiling fans, tea and coffee making facilities and comfy chairs. One is a family room with a separate twin bedded room on the far side of the bathroom. Each room has an en suite bathroom with hot shower, flush toilet and basin, while their private decks provide a wonderful space in which to sit and enjoy views of the lagoon and reed beds beyond. Lots of special touches have been included in the rooms for additional comfort and convenience, including books, bathrobes and slippers.

Location

The property is situated on the banks of a lagoon on the Linyanti River, and is part of the private Linyanti Wildlife Reserve in the north of Botswana.

Food and drink

Meals are served buffet style, with guests seated at tables on the deck overlooking the river.

Families

The family room has an additional bedroom, making it the best option for those traveling with children.

Facilities and activities

Activities from Duma Tau are numerous, covering both water and land-based options. Morning and afternoon game drives, boat trips and nature walks are offered. There also a choice of two hides to relax in, with the option to sleep in a hide overnight for the more adventurous — ask your specialist if you'd like to arrange this. At the entrance to camp is a boma area, where dinner is sometimes taken to the accompaniment of a cultural presentation, including local songs and dances.

Taking a boat trip to see elephant crossing the river allows you to get within meters of these gentle giants. In the dry winter months especially you should encounter many large herds of elephant coming down to the Linyanti River for a drink and a bathe. The boat trip also makes for perfect sundowners later in the afternoon.

Overlooking the lagoon at the camp is a small swimming pool in which you can relax and cool off in between activities.

Environmental and social responsibility

Duma Tau’s energy-efficient systems include solar power, above-ground sewage treatment and energy saving lights. It's also part of the Elephant Challenge, having facilitated and partially funded research on the possible impact that large numbers of elephant have on vegetation and other animal species in Botswana. Duma Tau also works closely with local government bodies involved in conservation and research in the Linyanti area, particularly those involved with research into species such as African wild dog, elephant, lion and roan antelope.

As a Long Run Alliance member, the camp is dedicated to sustainability through the '4Cs' (conservation, community, culture and commerce) and a leader in sustainable tourism, biodiversity conservation, community development and cultural stewardship.
