Visit Mondulkiri, Cambodia

The easternmost province of Mondulkiri is one of the last unexplored frontiers in Cambodia.

Mondulkiri is the largest of Cambodia’s provinces yet has a population of only 50,000, most of whom are Phnong and Khmer.

The journey from Phnom Penh is long, bumpy and certainly not for the faint hearted but those choosing to venture here, will not be disappointed. The area is scattered with hill tribes, brimming with waterfalls and rich in picturesque scenery and lush tropical forest. This remote area is little visited but with slight improvements in the roads it is becoming more accessible.

Activities and local culture in Mondulkiri

Treks journey through small villages and into the fringes of the forest whilst longer treks venture deep into the jungle past refreshing waterfalls where few visitors go. Bou Sra Waterfalls are the largest and most famous in all of Cambodia.

Hilltribes of Mondulkiri

The hilltribes of Mondulkiri enjoy a different culture than those in other provinces and this is pre-eminently displayed in their unique architecture and lifestyle. Three or four families share one home together as they prefer to live in groups. There are many ethnic minority villages and a visit to any one is an eye-opening experience.

Trekking

Trekking can also be arranged including overnight camping in the forest. The deeper you explore into the forest the wilder and more untamed it becomes, and you may even see leopards and bears that reside deep in the jungle.
