Set at the foot of Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix is Hôtel l’Héliopic, an elegantly modern property right next to the cable car station. The open layout of the hotel is sleek, modern and stylish with pared-back decor, designer furniture and a muted palette of grays and neutrals that runs throughout.
The open-plan lobby runs the length of the main building with lounge and games areas, and a children’s corner with large-screen TV and play room. The simple, modern style of the public areas continues in the 102 spacious rooms which are spread over two buildings and are decorated in tones of light gray and beige, with wooden floors, modern bathrooms and private balconies with mountain views.
A continental buffet breakfast is served in the large restaurant, while in the evening the menu features traditional French fare served in a contemporary style. The lobby bar also serves small meals and bar bites.
Aprés-ski options include the Spa by Nuxe which has three treatment rooms, a basement swimming pool, ice grotto and Jacuzzi overlooking Mont Blanc.
We love Héliopic Hotel & Spa for the convenient location near some of Chamonix’s most renowned attractions as well as for its large, comfortable rooms and proximity to restaurants and bars.

Rooms
The 102 rooms are spread across two buildings. Size and layout differs with room category but all are similar in style with a palette of muted grays and beiges complemented by white accents. Large, soft blankets, textured lamps and heavy curtains give a sense of designer comfort, while complimentary Wi-Fi, modern bathrooms and a private balcony with mountain views top off the standard facilities. There is no air conditioning at Héliopic but you can request a fan for your room, though the temperatures generally stay mild through the summer months.
Location
Chamonix in the French Alps is one of the country’s most fashionable mountain resorts and the hotel is set at its heart within a short walk of the Aiguille du Midi cable car. The town’s shops, restaurants and cafés are all within walking distance of the property, as are Chamonix’s other ski lifts.
Food and drink
A wide-ranging continental breakfast is served in the restaurant each morning and during the day the Épicerie du Midi, a stylish café-cum-grocery store, serves a selection of snacks, soups and salads. The restaurant, Akashon, opens again every evening and serves a menu of traditional Savoyard fare as well as classic French dishes.
Facilities and activities
The large Spa by Nuxe at Héliopic is a great place to unwind with treatment rooms, an indoor swimming pool, a Jacuzzi overlooking Mont Blanc, a steam room and sauna, and an ice grotto where you can brave an ice bath.
