Masseria Cervarolo

Masseria Cervarolo

Ostuni, Italy

About 6 km (4 miles) outside the town of Ostuni in eastern Puglia you’ll find Masseria Cervarolo. The masseria’s own lore says that the small historical church on site was once a destination for pilgrims seeking peaceful serenity, and today it's easy to see why. The property offers a relaxing retreat in the form of a welcoming, boutique hotel. The property is family owned and run and this is evident in the home-away-from-home feeling that exists throughout the grounds and rooms.

A lounge area is known as the 'living room' and offers a large bookshelf where guests can borrow a book and relax with it poolside or on one of the plush sofas. An honesty bar allows guests to experience the ease and comfort of their own living room with the style and character of a boutique hotel. Even dinner is served family style; there's a set menu each evening prepared by the chef from local ingredients and served at a set time, meaning guests can meet one another and experience traditional Pugliese home cooking.

The fact that there are only 18 rooms in the property helps foster the friendly, intimate feeling. Rooms are bright and decorated with carefully thought out antiques and original features. A few are even located in traditional trulli — the round, thatched-roof dwelling used historically in this area — although even these have all the modern comforts. An inviting swimming pool sits in the garden with a poolside bar, and the property also offers cooking and wine tasting classes once a week on complimentary basis.

OUR OPINION:

We’ve found Masseria Cervarolo to be an amazingly welcoming and friendly experience. In addition, the lovely grounds, boutique style, and truly stylish rooms, make this an excellent choice.

Rooms

The 18 rooms of the property are located in three areas — the historic masseria, the mid-20th century addition to the masseria, and rooms in traditional trulli. All rooms have been decorated to tastefully display antiques and the original features of the rooms. Each room is unique and many also offer terrace or garden areas. All rooms have Wi-Fi and air conditioning.

Location

The masseria is set in the countryside about 6 km (4 miles) west of the town of Ostuni in central Puglia. This creates a quiet retreat for guests to get away from the stresses of home. Ostuni is about 15 minutes away by car and offers additional options for restaurants.

Food and drink

The property’s restaurant prides itself on the use of homemade dishes using locally sourced ingredients. Each evening, dinner is served from 8pm-9pm from a set menu of the day’s dishes. This creates a warm feeling evocative of family dinner time, which is further enhanced by the local home cooking. There is also a small poolside bar and an honesty bar in the living room. Breakfast is served in the mornings in the dining room which is located in a separate building in the garden.

Facilities and activities

An inviting pool is located in the garden area with loungers and a gentle sloping entrance to the water which is nice for younger guests. Wine tastings and cooking classes are run once a week for guests on a complimentary basis, allowing participants to gain a better look at local wine and cuisine.
