Renovated in early 2019, Anderssons at Ongava has set a high benchmark for ecotourism. A busy waterhole is the central feature of the lodge, overlooked by the communal areas including an open-air dining room, spacious lounge, curio shop, infinity pool and library. Beside the waterhole is an underground photographic hide, a lovely spot to spend a couple of hours with a camera, binoculars and bird book to identify the many species that pass through to drink and bathe.
Set slightly apart from the main lodge is the Ongava Research Centre which hosts some of the continent's leading scientists and researchers. Guests are welcome to peruse the exhibitions or join discussions with resident naturalists as they strive to lead the way in conservation education. Other activities from Anderssons include guided game drives on the reserve, and also in Etosha National Park, specialized birdwatching, guided nature walks and rhino tracking.
There is a strong emphasis on visitors immersing themselves in conservation solutions through involvement with the visiting researchers, so Anderssons is suited to people with a passion for the future of Africa's ecosystems. The rooms offer a luxurious retreat and the Ongava Reserve has some fantastic animal populations, so this lodge has multi-level appeal.

Facilities and activities

There is also the opportunity to join a walk to see the rhino, or to watch wildlife from the photographic hide. The Ongava Research Centre is located just off the camp’s boundary, and guests can visit to learn more about the local wildlife.
Environmental and social responsibility
The Ongava Research Centre was created to ensure the future of the endangered species of the area. Staff here work hard to maintain the wild habitat and learn more about the creatures in their care, with particular attention to conserving the populations of rare white and black rhino.
