Tok Tokkie Trails operates in the southern reaches of the NamibRand, one of the largest privately owned concessions in the Southern Hemisphere. It offers an excellent opportunity to learn about the flora and fauna that occupies this special region.
Each day you'll ramble over dunes, rocky hills and across grassy plains. You will walk a couple of hours on the first day, five to six hours on the second and then have a short walk back to the farm on your final morning. There will be long stops for big picnic lunches under shady trees. Walking, you'll learn about the plants and geology of the area as well as the animals. Each night, arriving in camp you'll find a campfire and dinner being cooked.
Camp beds are set out in the open so you'll sleep directly under the stars. There are hot bucket showers for washing the dust off and all your clothes will have been transferred to the camp ahead of you (so you only walk with a small rucksack of water and binoculars). After toasting your feet around the fire, dinner is served at a table under the night sky. After a restful night and a big breakfast you'll set off again for another day's walk. It's a wonderful way to explore this magical area.
You can expect to see the likes of springbok, ostrich, kudu as well as any number of smaller species such as the flightless wasp, horned adder, dune cricket and barking geckos as well as the tok tokkie beetle which the trail is named after.
