Drive a short distance from Kathmandu to Boudhanath where you will see one of the largest stupas in Nepal. A small Tibetan settlement has developed around this important religious sight. Many Tibetan Buddhist festivals take place here, and you can visit the Tibetan monastery close by.
From Boudhanath you can drive or walk (one hour) to Pashupatinath, a deeply religious pilgrimage center for Hindus. This is where important Hindu figures from all over Nepal are cremated publicly. Although a fascinating scene, these should be viewed from a discreet distance.
