In Māori, Tauranga means 'Resting Place for Canoes' and some believe it to be the place Polynesians first arrived in New Zealand.
It sits on the beautiful Bay of Plenty and enjoys a temperate, sunny climate, a thriving economy and is the kiwi growing capital of New Zealand.
Although the town itself offers few tourist attractions it is close to some good surfing and white sand beaches, and you will find the popular Mount Maunganui just across the inlet.
