Etu Moana Boutique Beach Villas

Etu Moana Boutique Beach Villas

Aitutaki, The Cook Islands

This boutique property on Aitutaki Island has an intimate atmosphere with just ten, Polynesian-style villas. Nestled between the hill and the lagoon, the hotel has been carefully designed so that every bungalow enjoys views through the tropical gardens and past the pool to the turquoise lagoon beyond.

The villas feature thatched roofs, large, covered verandas, hardwood floors, teak furniture, and marble-tiled bathrooms that open out into your own private garden with outdoor shower. The large beds face the lagoon, and the villas have both fans and air conditioning.

Although there is no restaurant on site, breakfast is served by the pool and the villas each have a kitchenette which allows you to cook for yourself should you wish. There are cafés and restaurants within walking distance and your hosts will be able to arrange dinner or Polynesian-themed 'island nights' with a traditional buffet and entertainment at one of the nearby resorts or restaurants.

There’s an honesty bar by the pool and complimentary snorkels, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and bicycles to explore the island and its lagoon.

OUR OPINION:

We love Etu Moana’s intimate atmosphere and thatched, Polynesian-style villas which overlook white sands and a turquoise lagoon. It’s an enviable base away from the large resorts.

Rooms

The hotel’s ten spacious villas are built in traditional Polynesian style with thatched roofs, high, vaulted ceilings and large windows that ensure a cooling breeze at the height of the day. The villas are spaced across the gardens and fitted with oak floors, a kitchenette, and have large verandas with a daybed overlooking the gardens. All have ceiling fans and air conditioning, Wi-Fi and an entertainment system, while the marble-tiled bathrooms have indoor and outdoor showers.

Location

Set in lush gardens facing Aitutaki Island’s outer lagoon and the sea, Etu Moana offers the tropical island location of your daydreams. You can walk along the fine, sandy beach to cafés and restaurants, see tropical fish, sea cucumbers and starfish in the lagoon, and swim or snorkel in the lagoon at high tide, or in the nearby swimming hole at other times.

Food and drink

A buffet breakfast of fresh, seasonal fruit, cereal, cheese, eggs, waffles and coconut is served by the pool or you can take it back to your veranda instead. Although there’s no restaurant on site, the hotel has an honesty bar, and each villa has its own kitchenette with a shared oven and microwave by the pool. You can also walk to a variety of cafés and restaurants within ten minutes.

Families

Etu Moana does not accept guests under the age of 16.

Facilities and activities

The hotel provides complimentary kayaks, snorkels, stand-up paddleboards and reef shoes so you can explore the lagoon. Although the lagoon is too shallow to swim in at low tide, there is a deeper swimming hole by the beach so you can swim all day in the sea or the hotel pool. You can also borrow mountain bikes to explore the island, or have a massage on your veranda.
