Trek to Batad
Batad is a village deep in the mountains that is known for its rice terraces which have been built in concentric circles down the mountain sides like an amphitheater with the village right in the middle.
Visit the village of Bangaan, a typical village of the Ifugao tribe. See the typical Ifugao houses, their livelihood, and their method of farming the rice terraces.
This visit to Bangaan is an introduction to the mountain tribes and is a prelude to visits to other villages.
Return to the center of Banaue to visit the market and the handicraft center to see samples of Ifugao craftsmanship which include woodcarving, silver and brass trinkets, baskets and the weaving of the Ifugao cloth which comes in distinctive patterns.
From the market, it is possible to proceed to the village of Poitan which has the unique feature of its houses built on straight rows and in the village center is a large rock believed to be the dwelling place of the spirits of the villagers’ ancestors.
From Poitan, trek back to the hotel.
