Middlethorpe Hall & Spa, York

Middlethorpe Hall & Spa

York, The UK

Built in 1669 and originally a private country house, this grand, red-brick building has had various uses over the years. Its storied history includes housing a girls’ school, apartments and a nightclub. Today, Middlethorpe Hall & Spa is owned by the National Trust and offers fantastic service with an exclusive feel.

The pastel-hued reception area emanates the air of a refined country home and is adorned with portraits and antique furnishings. The rooms, each individually decorated in a classic English style, are split between the main house and the courtyard building.

The hotel also has an award-winning restaurant, a drawing room for afternoon tea, and a spa featuring a pool, steam room, sauna and whirlpool bath.

OUR OPINION:

Despite the somewhat dated furniture in the rooms, this is a beautiful property with an exclusive feel which has even hosted royalty in the past.
