Rickenbacker taxi tour

Birthplace of the Beatles and synonymous with their story, Liverpool was where the Fab Four first met and performed. This three-hour private tour with a Beatles’ expert takes you in the footsteps of John, Paul, George and Ringo, from their early days to the formation of the band. You’ll get to see their local haunts and inspirations, and places where they composed and rehearsed their earliest songs. Driving around in a specially designed, psychedelic cab inspired by John Lennon’s vividly painted 1964 Rolls-Royce, and listening to their greatest hits, you’ll be fully immersed in the Beatles’ story.

You’re picked up from your hotel on the morning of your tour by your guide, a Beatles enthusiast with many years’ experience as a driver. Your transport is a traditional taxi decorated in typically outlandish Beatles style.

The tour takes you on a journey around the city that reflects the story of the band from their childhood and teenage years through to their first meeting and recordings. As you drive about the city listening to the group’s classic hits, you’ll learn about the band members’ tragic upbringings and hear how they first got together and the frequent name and line-up changes that marked their early years.

Along the way, you’ll visit the homes in which John, Paul, George and Ringo grew up and the schools they attended, and see the sites that inspired Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever. You’ll also get to walk around Saint Peter’s Church, the location of John and Paul’s first meeting and the place where Eleanor Rigby is buried.

Due to the taxi’s size, you’re able to navigate through back roads that coaches can’t access, allowing you to see more of the sites associated with the band. Although the taxi can seat five, for comfort, we recommend a maximum of four passengers.

At the end of your tour, your guide can take you back to your hotel or drop you off at another city location. We recommend finishing at The Beatles Story on Albert Dock, an exhibition devoted to the life and work of the band. Alternatively, you could go to Mathew Street to visit the historic Cavern Club, the live venue where the Beatles played their first gig.
