This impressive country manor has a wow factor even as you approach on the grand, sweeping driveway. There has been a residence here for centuries, and notably Culloden House was requisitioned by Bonnie Prince Charlie as the battle headquarters before the disastrous final Jacobite uprising in 1745.
Today’s house has been tastefully decorated to reflect its historic origins. Public rooms are spacious, with high ceilings, large open fireplaces and ornate stuccoed ceilings. The restaurant serves an exquisite fine-dining menu and the Library Bar has an extensive array of whiskies. Each of the rooms is different, but all have the same lavish decor, which is in keeping with the house’s history.
Although we find the decor a little old-fashioned, the hotel’s sense of history and grandeur makes it a really special property.

The decor of patterned wallpaper, curtains and carpets is at times quite busy, but not unattractive and very much in keeping with the history of the hotel. Some rooms have features such as a marble fireplace or a crystal chandelier, and all are spacious. All rooms have en suite bathrooms, a TV and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Culloden House is located to the east of Inverness, just a 15-minute drive from the heart of the city and a short drive from the Cairngorms National Park. Food and drink
Breakfast is served in the Adam’s Dining Room, an à la carte menu with a choice of hot and cold dishes. In the evening, a fine-dining menu featuring local Scottish ingredients and dishes is served in this same room, which has a dress code of no jeans, trainers or collarless shirts. Afternoon tea can be served either in the library bar or the lounge, and an impressive selection of whiskies is on offer from the bar.
