The Nonantum Resort

Kennebunkport, The US

The Nonantum Resort is a traditional American hotel located right on the banks of the Kennebunk River and offering spectacular views.

Traditional in style, the property has a long history stretching back to the 1880s, undergoing numerous renovations over the years but maintaining its original charm. It boasts lovely views over the water, where small boats come and go and a variety of wildlife can be spotted. Operating very much as a summer resort, you'll be met by enthusiastic, friendly staff and can enjoy a range of activities both on and off the water.

OUR OPINION:

A traditional yet bright and airy resort, no more than five minutes from the center of Kennebunkport, The Nonantum's location away from town takes full advantage of this rugged yet beautiful coastline. Despite the property lying near the road (which can be noisy), many rooms have a view of the Kennebunkport River, and some have a private balcony.

Rooms

Rooms are divided between two main buildings. The first is the original Carriage House Inn, which is serviced by the original lift operated by staff and features traditional and Victorian decor. Accommodation in this building spans several categories, with some offering views of the river and others boasting Jacuzzi baths. There are also Family Suites and Living Room Suites for those seeking more space.

Our preferred rooms are located in the more modern Portside Lodge, where a number of rooms boast spectacular views over the water. Those on the first and second floors offer private balconies or patios, while the third floor rooms have large picture windows to truly take advantage of the view. In addition to the standard Portside rooms, the building has Family Suites featuring two sofa beds and a separate bedroom with king sized bed, as well as the spacious Riverfront Suite which comes complete with a microwave, fridge and two bedrooms.

Rooms in both buildings are light and airy, decorated with artwork from local artists in calming nautical tones. Many offer gas fireplaces, and all come with modern amenities such as air conditioning, cable TV, Wi-Fi access, hair dryers and coffee makers.

Location

The resort is within an easy walk of the shops, galleries and restaurants of Kennebunkport's Dock Square. With its waterfront setting, it provides an attractive base for your stay in Maine.

Food and drink

The resort offers a good range of drinking and dining options, from Latitudes poolside bar and grill to 95 Ocean, showcasing the best in local farm produce, seasonal ingredients and fresh seafood. During the summer, local musicians often perform in Heckman’s Pub, which offers a lovely place to relax with a drink after a day in the sunshine.

Families

The Nonantum Resort is perfect for families with children of all ages. Throughout the summer, different activities are offered on a daily basis, including face painting, crabbing and campfire sing-a-longs. There's plenty of choice when it comes to family-friendly accommodation, with Family Suites offered in both buildings.

Facilities and activities

The resort offers a heated outdoor pool, bike and kayak rental, a range of children’s activities, yoga, fishing and much more. When you arrive, be sure to find out what activities are taking place; the hotel has a wide range of things going on, from cycling to sailing.

Accessibility

The Portside Lodge rooms are all handicapped accessible with a modern elevator.

Environmental and social responsibility

The Nonantum Resort has been awarded a TripAdvisor Green Leaders Gold Badge and is committed to energy efficiency and sustainability, from using herbs grown on site to recycling waste and conserving water where possible. The resort works hard to raise awareness about protecting the environment and the Maine coastline in particular.
