Despite being set amidst the wild and stunning peaks of the Adirondack Mountains, Lake Placid is perhaps better known for hosting the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Games.

The little town is surrounded by abundant lakes, rivers and forests and is perfectly located for exploring Adirondack Park where there are over 200 miles of hiking trails as well as white-water rafting, fly-fishing, bungee jumping, horse riding, mountain climbing and mountain biking.

In addition you can take a trip on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad or take a gondola to one of the mountain summits. The town itself is set on two lakes — Mirror Lake and Lake Placid — which offer a stunning backdrop as you browse the shops, enjoy an alfresco lunch or visit the Olympic Center which houses the 1932 and 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympic Museum.
