Grace

Norway & Iceland Specialist

I was always inquisitive about the world around me and chose to study geography at university. After a trip around Europe, I became hooked on travel and spent every summer in a different country until I finally moved abroad.

I was drawn to Canada and settled in Banff, Alberta, which is where my passion for photography developed. In turn, this led me to explore Iceland and Norway, in search of more rugged and mountainous landscapes. These three counties have become very dear to me as I've got such vivid and happy memories of witnessing my first grizzly bear with my mum, being surrounded by humpbacks in a fjord in north Iceland, and seeing the northern lights dance in northern Norway.

Working for Audley, lets me channel all my enthusiasm for Canada, Iceland and Norway into creating trips of a lifetime for others and sharing all that I've experienced to make their journey just as memorable.

Diamond Beach, South East Iceland

I recommend visiting - South Iceland, Iceland

I recommend visiting the South Coast of Iceland as you will find soaring waterfalls, floating icebergs and volcanic beaches, as well as it being a gateway to my favourite area Landmannalaugar. Landmannalaugar is located in Iceland’s highlands, only accessible by multiple river crossings, is abundant in multi-coloured rhyolite mountains, where you can dip in a natural hot spring, or hike along lava fields. Whilst the South Coast can be busy at times, it's certainly worth a visit for dramatic landscapes and unforgettable experiences, such as kayaking on glacier lagoons.

I recommend staying at - Reine Rorbuer, Norway

Medium

I recommend staying at Reine Rorbuer for an authentic Norwegian experience, sleeping in an historic red fishing cabin, perched right on the end of the village. You'll wake up to majestic fjord and mountain views directly from your cabin. You can kayak, cycle, even snorkel nearby, all organised through the hotel, which boasts one of the best restaurants in Lofoten. I visited here during winter and loved the contrast of the fresh snow with the vibrant red cabins, however summer is just as magical, showcasing the stunning turquoise clear water in the fjord.

I'll never forget when…

Known as the ‘Matterhorn of the Rockies’, Mount Assiniboine is a majestic, pyramidal peak on the BC-Alberta border. Instead of hiking the gruelling 53 km (33 mile) round trip into backcountry wildness frequented by bears, we opted to helicopter in instead. Soaring over snow-capped peaks, glacial lakes and dramatic valleys was impressive enough, but then we landed in the most pristine and peaceful place I’ve ever been. It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. We set up camp with a view of Assiniboine from our tent and spent the next few days watching sunrises from mountain tops. It was magical.
