There are just eight cabins and a number of traditional tipis at Cross River Cabins, surrounded by pine trees and wildflowers, with a mountain stream trickling close by and views of the Rocky Mountains defining the Kootenay River valley below.
Each cabin has been recently renovated and decorated with a wilderness theme. This is a real retreat with no Wi-Fi or TV, allowing you a chance to enjoy the incredible location and relax by your cabin’s log fire. There’s a spacious main lodge, providing a large kitchen, dining area and large living room with vaulted ceilings; log-framed beams; an open fireplace; and spectacular mountain views.
Whilst at Cross River, you can relax on the large outside decks and take in the views, enjoy the wood-fired hot tub or fire pit after an active day outside. Personal service and great food are hallmarks here and it is also possible to arrange a number of optional extra activities such as guided hiking, canoeing, river rafting, or First Nations cultural experiences.
A great place if you are looking for somewhere secluded for a peaceful escape. The hosts are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and keen to help you explore the area. There are a number of hiking trails nearby that lead to beautiful panoramas across the landscape. The cabins are an ideal place to relax with no TV or Wi-Fi, leaving you to retreat to the log fire with a good book.

Rooms
There are just eight wooden cabins decorated with traditional First Nations fabrics and locally-made pine furniture. Each has a comfortable queen-size log bed with down comforter, additional twin beds, and a sitting area with wood-burning fireplace. Wood is delivered daily to your door. The cabins are equipped with solar-powered lights and have private bathrooms with showers. Each one looks out across the surrounding woodland.
Location
Cross River Wilderness Centre is located on the south edge of Kootenay National Park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Set in a secluded section of the park in a narrow valley, it’s around 50 minutes’ drive from Radium Hot Springs, the nearest town.
Food and drink
All meals are included in your stay at Cross River, although self-catering facilities are also available. The food is home-cooked using fresh, organic produce wherever possible. Wild meats of the region are often served including buffalo, deer and elk. Your hosts are happy to cater for dietary requirements but do need advance notice.
Families
The cabins sleep up to four people in a queen size log bed and two twin beds giving space for all the family. Meals are included so you don't have to worry about booking restaurants. The main attraction is the range of activities on offer from leather work and ancestral skills to camouflage and archery. There's also excellent white-water rafting and hiking, and plenty of learning opportunities.
Facilities and activities
The cabins are located in the heart of Kootenay National Park, with hiking trails on your doorstep. During your stay at the cabins you can take part in guided hiking, canoeing, river rafting, mountain biking or First Nations cultural experiences. Each morning, prayers and meditations are held in the Kunkurwa, a sacred abode usually used by First Nations elders.
