Pathways of the Algonquin — 3 Days

This three-day adventure is based at the Algonquin Log Cabin Lodge. This small, rustic lodge is located at the northwest corner of Algonquin Provincial Park, famous for wildlife and natural beauty. Situated on Surprise Lake, the log cabin combines a scenic and peaceful location with knowledgeable wilderness guides, warm hospitality and an intimate ambiance.

After arriving at the first entrance point in Algonquin Provincial Park you meet the guides and fellow guests for the 'walk in' which starts the Algonquin Voyageur Quest adventure. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife as moose, white tailed deer, beavers, black bears and wolves all inhabit the area. Eventually you will arrive at the beautifully clear waters of Surprise Lake where a 20 ft voyager canoe will be waiting. Weather permitting, go out for a moonlight paddle to listen to the park literally bubbling with nocturnal wilderness activity.

Enjoy a leisurely morning hike to Lookout Bluff for a spectacular view over some of the Algonquin lakes before returning for lunch at the lodge. After lunch, take a basic canoe lesson as the guides brush up paddling techniques and then the afternoon is free to do as you please — this is a great time to swim in the beautifully clear waters, explore the area further by canoe, or just relax at the lodge and take a sauna. In the evening it's back in the big canoe as you paddle out to one of the islands for a sunset bonfire and scrumptious evening meal.

Rise and shine early in the morning as it's time for one of the highlights of your trip, a sunrise paddle! The guides will encourage you to be as silent as possible to give you maximum chance to sneak up on any wildlife that might be around — keep your eyes peeled for moose in particular, as they are known for taking early morning baths at this time. Arriving at another idyllic island, take in the stunning vistas for a while before returning to the lodge to spend the last few hours at leisure before departing.
