The views from Li-An Lodge over a sea of rice terraces are hard to beat. With a wooden, rustic exterior, the lodge stays true to its village surroundings.
Inside, the artistic flair of its owner shines through, with local photographs and artwork adorning the walls and each of the 16 rooms having its own theme relating to different aspects of Chinese culture. With spacious balconies and an intimate atmosphere, Li-An Lodge provides a relaxing stay in one of the most beautiful settings in China.
Li-An Lodge definitely offers the best accommodation in the area. We like its comfortable, characterful rooms, and the sweeping views over the rice terraces.

Rooms
Li-An Lodge has a wide selection of rooms, each with its own personality. The Terrace View rooms and Suites offer sweeping views over the Dragon’s Backbone rice terraces, while the Standard rooms face the other way but are just as characterful. Each room contains a different piece of Chinese history, such as traditional Chinese instruments, calligraphy and porcelain. Given the remote location, each room is very clean and comfortable, and Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
Although every Terrace View room has fantastic views, the real highlight is the Celadon room, which boasts a larger balcony and spectacular views of the sun rising and setting over the terraces.
Location
Li-An Lodge is located high on the slopes of Pingan village, within Longji's Dragon's Backbone rice Terraces. The village is remote, and to access the lodge you'll need to walk for around 40 minutes, sometimes up fairly steep inclines. However, the picture-perfect views from the lodge are worth it. The area is a hiker’s and photographer’s paradise.
Food and drink
The hotel offers a good range of local and Western food throughout the day, giving guests the opportunity to taste some of the local delicacies. For those looking to explore a bit more, Pingan does offer a few restaurant options that are very accessible.
Facilities and activities
The lodge itself is fairly basic in terms of its facilities, but most of your time will be spent either relaxing on the terrace or heading out on walks through the rice terraces with your guide. You can walk to other nearby villages to learn about the rural way of life here.
