Located close to the East Gate of the legendary Summer Palace complex (approximately 15 kilometres from central Beijing), is the Aman Summer Palace. The former retreat of the Emperors, the resort encompasses a number of buildings well over a century old, which were originally used by guests of the Empress Dowager Cixi.
The Aman boasts nine spa treatment rooms, a 25-metre pool, a fully fitted gym, and two squash courts. Along with the Chinese and Cantonese cuisine, it has a Japanese chef skilled at French Kaiseki — French cuisine, with the attention to design and detail of the finest Japanese food. There is also a Western-style grill, offering grilled-to-order meals.
Guests also have exclusive out-of-hours access to the Summer Palace, through a private gate from the hotel to the grounds of the palace. Enter early in the morning to beat the crowds, and enjoy a unique atmosphere.
