El Cantil Eco Lodge

El Cantil Ecolodge

The Pacific Coast, Colombia

This is an eco-friendly lodge with a focus on relaxation, nature and sustainability.

The accommodation is quite basic, in-keeping with what is on offer in the region. There's no electricity at night (apart from in the restaurant) and the idea of staying here is to relax, enjoy nature, and get away from it all. This is relatively easy given its location on a peaceful section of Colombia's Pacific Coast and lack of distractions like Wi-Fi and television.

OUR OPINION:

El Cantil is a great option for surfing and is an adventure-lover's dream. The beaches around Nuquí are arguably the best in Colombia.

Rooms

El Cantil has seven simply designed yet comfortable rooms. Cabins are built with locally-sourced wood, shingle roofs, and spacious bathroom with jungle views. Each also features beds with mosquito nets, built-in wardrobes, and a terrace with hammocks and an ocean view.

Location

El Cantil Ecolodge has a secluded location on the wild Pacific Coast of Colombia. Only accessible by flights from Medellín, the small municipality of Nuquí serves as the entryway to the lodge. South of Nuquí, approximately 35 minutes away by boat, is El Cantil. The lodge faces the beach, giving guests a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean enveloped by the jungle.

Food and drink

There's a panoramic view of the coastline from the restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. The lodge’s menu is predominantly seafood-based and reflects local culinary styles.

Families

The Pacific Coast is a destination reserved for the more intrepid travellers but families will be well-rewarded for the journey. The superior cabin sits perched overlooking the ocean which is ideal for watching whales swimming by and with two bedrooms is perfect for families. There are also plenty of educational opportunities from time spent with the local naturalist guides — though an English translator will be required to deliver the messages.

Facilities and activities

Local naturalist guides are available to take guests on hikes and whale watches. There are also longboards, paddleboards, bodyboards, kayaks, and snorkelling equipment that can be rented for an additional cost.
