Medellín City Tour
Medellín City Tour
Today you will visit the Plazuela San Ignacio and some excellent museums, including the Museo de Antioquia.
You will be met from your hotel by your driver and taken directly to El Peñol for your full day tour — a journey of approximately two hours. This great day trip from Medellín takes you out into the countryside of Antioquia and to the giant monolith rock of El Peñol (literally, "The stone").
Reminiscent of the Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio this 200 metre high rock towers over a series of beautiful lakes with a mountain backdrop. This Swiss-like scenery makes a stunning comparison to the modern and cosmopolitan city of Medellín only a few hours away. The top of the rock is reached by a series of 649 wooden steps that wind up to the top of the rock.
Upon reaching the top you are greeted with a 360 degree bird's eye view of the surrounding countryside. There is normally a guide on the top of the rock to explain a bit about the geography of the area and some of the unusual rock formations around the lakes below, as well as point out the confiscated houses of infamous Medellín inhabitants such as Pablo Escobar.
