The best time to visit the Amalfi Coast is in May or September. The weather is beautiful, with temperatures between 20°C and 25°C, and the activities are plentiful, without the crowds July and August bring.
Although the months from November to March bring fewer crowds, restaurants and hotels in smaller towns along the coast shut down for that very reason. This makes hotel options extremely limited outside Naples and Sorrento. Many of the ferries and hydrofoils don’t run during this period, so it’s best to visit after Easter when they reopen.
Month-by-month guide for travelling in the Amalfi Coast Region
Visiting the Amalfi Coast Region in November - March
Winter isn’t a time that we particularly recommend for travelling to the Amalfi Coast. The weather can be cold and damp and many of the shops, restaurants and hotels will be closed. There will still be some options open in Naples and Sorrento and though it’s not the best time to appreciate the Amalfi Coast’s beauty, the towns can warrant a pleasant break over Christmas without any crowds.
Visiting the Amalfi Coast Region in April - May
From Easter onward, the Amalfi Coast starts to come back to life as the temperatures warm up and hotels and shops re-open after the winter. The citrus trees are in bloom, providing wonderful sights and smells, and the number of visitors is far lower than in the summer months. We find spring is one of the best times to visit the region.
