Jamaica Inn is an intimate property lying within tropical grounds and set beside a small private beach. It has just 55 suites and cottages within its colonial-style Wedgewood blue-and-white buildings, which feature louvre windows and airy verandas, all with sea views.
During your stay here, you can visit the inn’s Ocean Spa, which is set beside the sea and embraces Jamaican touches in its natural and organic treatments. When not enjoying a treatment, you can take a soak in the saltwater sea bath, which is embedded into the cliff face overlooking the glittering sea below.
Your days can be spent sipping drinks by the pool, perfecting your skills on the croquet lawn or plying the clear sea waters on a sunfish sailboat or kayak. You can also go snorkelling and paddleboarding, with equipment for both provided.
The hotel’s restaurants both feature sea views, from the beachside Sea Shanty restaurant serving fresh lunches to the more formal Terrace Restaurant, where whitewashed wooden furniture sprawls across an open terrace for a gourmet meal under the stars, accompanied by daily live music.
We love the laid-back, unplugged lifestyle here. With an emphasis on the natural surroundings from the sea-view rooms, balconies and verandas, you’re encouraged to unwind in the outdoors from the moment you step onto the property.

Rooms
The 55 accommodation options at Jamaica Inn include seven cottages and three bungalows. All options embrace a timeless style with a modern twist, featuring period furniture juxtaposed with tropical prints. You’ll have a sea view wherever you unpack through generously sized private verandas or louvre windows and balconies. Whitewashed walls and soft pastel tones leave a calming atmosphere throughout, exemplified by plush sofas and a writing desk.
With the exception of Suite 21, which is tucked away on its own private peninsula, you won’t find any TVs, radios or clocks here, as the inn encourages a laid-back lifestyle reflective of the whole island. However, Wi-Fi, en suite bathrooms and air conditioning come as standard.
Location
Fringed by swaying palms and bordered by a flour-soft sand beach, Jamaica Inn is 3 km (2 miles) east of Ocho Rios, on the north coast of Jamaica. It takes around 90 minutes to reach the inn by car from both Kingston and Montego Bay airports. The property feels secluded thanks to its private beach and enveloping mature gardens.
Food and drink
Dining options at Jamaica Inn combine chic sophistication with postcard-perfect natural surroundings. While you can enjoy an indulgent breakfast or private dinner from the seclusion of your own balcony or veranda, a hearty breakfast menu of local dishes is served in the Sea Shanty restaurant, as is a casual freshly made lunch.
At the Terrace Restaurant, the soothing lull of live music oozes across the open-plan decking and out into the seascape beyond. The rainbow-toned gourmet creations feature international dishes infused with local Jamaican seasoning, with the menu changing daily to reflect the season’s freshest produce. Expert mixologists create an array of cocktails in the Lounge, where you can also dine on hot and cold hors d’oeuvres on the terrace. For an additional charge, you can sit down to an elegant afternoon high tea on the terrace, too.
Families
Children aged under ten are not allowed at the hotel, and with the lack of in-room TVs and other on-site children’s activities, we’d recommend an adult-only stay here.
Facilities and activities
The immaculate, crescent-shaped stretch of beach at Jamaica Inn is equipped with lounge chairs and palapas (open-sided thatched lounge areas), as well as complimentary water sports equipment, including paddleboarding, snorkelling, and kayaking.
Each day, between 11am and noon, fresh fruit juices are served on the beach — sip them while gently swaying in a hammock or at the beach bar.
The Ocean Spa offers a variety of treatments and relaxation areas, including a chance to soak in the naturally healing saltwater sea bath, perched above the sea.
Activity seekers can use the exercise room or play a game of tennis or croquet.
The BeeHive gift shop sells locally crafted souvenirs including local pottery, scented organic soaps, beachwear and wooden craft items.
Accessibility
There are no fully wheelchair-friendly rooms here, though three of the Deluxe Veranda suites have disability aids.
