Onguma Plains Camp

Onguma Plains Camp and The Fort are situated on the eastern side of Etosha, bordering Fisher's Pan. Consisting of 12 standard rooms, one fort suite and one bush suite, all rooms offer stunning views out over Fisher's Pan and all are air-conditioned.

The standard rooms are built to resemble miniature forts, all very spacious with large en suite bathrooms featuring an indoor and outdoor shower. A Moroccan theme is evident throughout the main lodge and all of the rooms, with water channels in the main areas which create a natural air-conditioning.

The camp is located on the private Onguma Reserve, a 20,000 hectare reserve with savannah, bushveld and dry pan. Whilst small, the reserve has 30 different animal species. Plains game roam freely on the reserve and predators, although not easy to spot, are resident in the area. Three of the Big Five can be spotted with lion, leopard and rhino. Onguma also became part of an innovative custodianship project relating to the black rhino. Six black rhino were darted in Etosha National Park and shipped to the reserve where they are protected and monitored.

More than 300 bird species can be viewed at Onguma and the reserve boasts the biggest breeding colony of white-backed vultures in Namibia. During the summer months Onguma becomes a bird-watcher's paradise with thousands of species migrating to wetlands created by the seasonal rains.

Please note, guests of Onguma are asked upon departure to make a contribution to the Onguma Haii//om Bushmen Trust. This trust has been set up to help protect the local community's traditional way of life and to provide funds for education, sustainable jobs and healthcare provision.
