Colin

Australia specialist

Growing up in New Hampshire, I was fortunate enough to dip my toes into the world of travel on a few family trips to western Europe and elsewhere around North America.

I very much so caught the travel bug after a trip through France, becoming infatuated with places and ways of life other than my own. Acting on this newfound wanderlust, I completed my undergraduate degree and worked in London for five years, obsessing over the differences in culture, exploring the vast sprawl of the city, and meeting lifelong friends from all around the world.

From London I traveled to all four UK countries, Ireland, and several locations across the continent. I also had the chance to visit a friend down in New Zealand and fell in love with that region of the world, guiding me to my role as an Australia specialist. I look forward to sharing my passion and expertise of the land down under with lose who wish to discover Australia.

Q&A with Colin

Colin at Mt. Taranaki, New Zealand

What’s your most vivid travel moment?

My most vivid travel moment was summiting Mt. Taranaki in New Zealand. The climb was a true challenge, with steep trails, loose footing, and moments of self-doubt. When I finally reached the top, the breathtaking panoramic view of the ocean and perfectly circular line of dense forest around the base made every effort worthwhile. The sense of accomplishment and connection to nature was unparalleled, and I came away with some not-too-shabby photos as well.

Perito Moreno Glacier, El Calafate

Where would you love to travel next?

My next dream destination is Patagonia in Argentina. Its dramatic landscapes, from jagged peaks and glaciers to turquoise lakes and vast plains, offer endless opportunities to experience and capture. As a keen landscape photographer, capturing the raw, untouched beauty of this region would be both inspiring and rewarding. Additionally, visiting Patagonia would allow me to check another continent off the list, further fueling my passion for exploration and discovering new parts of the world.

Bikes by the Arno River, Florence

Your best piece of travel advice?

My best travel advice is to ride a bicycle around a city on your first day there. It’s a quick, cheap, and fun way to get the lay of the land while enjoying some exercise and fresh air (helpful with jet lag, too!). I did just that in Florence, setting out at sunrise and pedaling through the quiet streets as the city slowly awakened. Reaching the Piazzale Michelangelo, I had the iconic view of the city all to myself. The experience was unforgettable, giving me both a sense of orientation and an incredible introduction to the city. Exploring by bike sets the tone for an active, local experience at your destination.
