With just 11 rooms and cottages, Bahama House feels more like an intimate beachside retreat, complete with a freshwater swimming pool and handcrafted sunken Tiki Bar. It's within close proximity to Harbour Island’s pink sand beaches and pastel-painted houses. The indoor-outdoor lounge with its library and tropical gardens emit a relaxing atmosphere among the British-colonial buildings which date back to the late 17th-century.
The property is centrally nestled in Dunmore Town, a prime sport for exploring Harbour Island’s fine-dining Bahamian restaurants and lively nightlife, with the slender beaches of the east coast a mere 10-minute stroll away.
With just a few rooms and cottages within this classically Bahamian styled British-colonial property, we love its intimacy and history.

Rooms
The 11 bedrooms and suites in the pale pink plantation-style building are designed in classic Bahamian decor, with an eclectic mix of wicker furniture and raffia-framed mirrors. Room categories range from queen bedrooms through to cottages with semi-private terraces. With a relaxed esthetic, the rooms come fully equipped with console-controlled temperature, lighting and music, en suite bathrooms, TV and Wi-Fi.
Location
On the east coast of the slender Harbour Isle in central Dunmore Town, Bahama House boasts a waterfront location and marina views. As one of over 700 islands that make up the Out Islands Archipelago, getting to the island from the mainland’s North Eleuthera Airport involves a 20-minute land and sea transfer. Being such a slim island, the beach is a short 10-minute walk from the hotel, with notably blushed toned sands and opal waters.
Food and drink
An extensive continental breakfast featuring tropical fruits and smoothies, pastries, eggs and à la carte options is served on the open-air terrace, however there is no formal restaurant for lunch or evening meals. Instead, a private chef is available for French-Bahamian tasting menus, fish banquets and barbecues, or the local restaurants are known for their fine Bahamian dining and only a short walk away. Alternatively, there are two hotel bars where rum is the star of the show: the old-school Rum Bar and the open-air Tiki Bar.
Families
The two-bedroom cottages are ideal for families, given their seclusion and space. Overall, Bahama House is a stay best suited for older children who can confidently and comfortably use the water sports equipment.
Facilities and activities
Within the grounds of the pastel-pink British-colonial building with bright white shutters is a freshwater pool and tropical gardens, along with the house Tiki Bar. Despite not having direct access to a beach, it's a short journey on a golf buggy to Pink Sands Beach, where sun loungers and a selection of refreshments on ice await. Local excursions are possible and arranged direct with the experienced hotel staff, such as snorkeling, fishing or exploring Dunmore’s pastel villas and heritage features.
Accessibility
Visiting the island involves a 20-minute land and sea transfer, so guests should be comfortable using a speedboat and golf buggy.
