Hotel 't Sandt

Hotel 't Sandt

Antwerp, Belgium

With an elegant white façade of tall windows and curling wrought-iron details, Hotel ‘t Sandt offers a polished place to stay that’s conveniently located near restaurants, shops and the waterfront promenade.

The building was a 16th-century warehouse for the banana trade in Antwerp, but was given a Rococo facelift when it was repurposed as a mansion in the 17th century. Many of the original design elements — like wood floors, antique wardrobes, wrought-iron spiral stairs and wood-beam ceilings — were painstakingly restored and can still be seen in the hotel.

The hotel also has an Italian-style courtyard where you can sit outside on the tree-shrouded terrace and listen to the trickling of the fountain.

Each of the 29 rooms is unique in size and layout due to the historic nature of the building, but all have contemporary furniture for comfort, and plentiful sunlight from the oversize windows.

OUR OPINION:

We love this hotel for its high level of service, stylish rooms and attention to detail throughout the building.

OUR RATING: Medium

The Cathedral Penthouse has a large bedroom area and much of the original structure, such as wooden support beams, is visible. The Cathedral Suite has a separate living area and a sofa bed.

En suite bathrooms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, minibars and flat-screen TVs are available in all the rooms.
