Doupiani House Hotel

Meteora, Greece

With some of the best views in the area and a convenient location next to the Meteora rocks, a drink on the terrace at Doupiani House affords timeless views of the unusual landscape. The hotel is set at the edge of the town just under a huge rock. Its garden, filled with lilacs, roses and jasmine, makes a great place to catch the sunrise over the Meteora rocks.

Inside, you’re greeted with a cheerful reception area which is traditional in style with dark woods and ceramic flooring, stone walls and a large fireplace. There is also an inviting bar area. There are 30 rooms, all decorated in a similar traditional style but with modern amenities including Wi-Fi and air conditioning. Many rooms have balconies with views of the renowned rocks or the valley below.

During the colder months, breakfast is served inside whereas during warmer months it’s served in the garden with its fragrant flowers and fruit and vegetable plants. Ingredients for breakfast are organically sourced, with most coming from the hotel garden and local village.

OUR OPINION:

We chose the Doupiani House Hotel for its great location and warm, welcoming atmosphere. The lovely village of Kastraki is a great base for exploring the monasteries of Meteora.

Rooms

Each of the 30 rooms is decorated in traditional style with ceramic flooring, wooden furniture and woven rugs. Patterned upholstery in olive, ocher, ecru and coral reflects the tones of the surrounding landscape and blends seamlessly with the natural wood and stone. Most rooms have a balcony, some with dramatic views of the Meteora rocks. Although traditional in style, rooms are equipped with modern amenities such as air conditioning and Wi-Fi.

Location

The hotel is located on the outskirts of town, about 10 to 15 minutes’ walk from the heart of Kastraki but about a five-minute walk from the nearest bars and tavernas. Its location just under the rocks of Meteora make the property a good spot to take in the renowned Meteora sunset.

Food and drink

Although Doupiani House has no restaurant, a wholesome breakfast is served each morning in the small dining area adjacent to reception. Many of the ingredients such as fruit and vegetables come from the hotel’s own garden and are accompanied by village eggs, local yogurt, Meteora honey, homemade jams and fresh pastries. In summer, breakfast is served in the fragrant garden. For dinner, staff are happy to make recommendations for local restaurants nearby.
