Kinsterna Hotel

Kinsterna Hotel

Monemvasia, Greece

Kinsterna Hotel combines a thoughtfully restored Byzantine mansion with modern comforts, all nestled into a scenic landscape overlooking Monemvasia. You’ll find original details, lovingly preserved, in public spaces and in many of the 27 guest rooms — a stone fireplace, for instance, or a fanciful niche carved into a rock wall.

The hotel’s facilities make the most of the surrounding landscape. A spacious infinity pool looks out over the Aegean, while treatments at the luxe spa take inspiration from local ingredients like olive oil and honey. The sea is just a stone’s throw from the hotel, and you can easily access the hotel’s private beach, located just 1.5 km (1 mile) away.

The dining options at Kinsterna include an open-air tavern and a pool bar. All the eateries use local ingredients sourced from the hotel’s own estate and vineyards, which you can visit during your stay.

OUR OPINION:

We love this hotel for its authentic character and the sensitivity with which the Byzantine structure was restored, as well as the thoroughly luxe modern comforts and exceptional views. The location, overlooking the village of Monemvasia and the Aegean, is another big draw.

Rooms

The 27 guest rooms include nine suites and are split between several different buildings, meaning each one is unique. Rooms in the main mansion incorporate historic features into otherwise modern interiors, while those in the new building are more modern throughout while still respecting the historic style of the property. The decor thoughtfully reflects the hotel’s historic character — you might find a lace-covered wall beside an original fireplace, or a sprawling bed tucked under a barrel-vaulted stone ceiling.

Location

This seaside hotel is perched on the eastern shore of one of the ‘fingers’ that make up the hand of the Peloponnese.
