Eighth Bastion

Eighth Bastion

Cochin, India

The hotel has a nautical theme, in keeping with its local surroundings. Enjoy Dutch art, enamel work and Delft China on display throughout, and a delightful replica model ship as you enter reception.

During your stay, you can relax by the pool in the property's central courtyard or borrow bikes for exploration further afield. As a small hotel, there are no spa or yoga facilities, but the hotel can arrange these for you at nearby Brunton Boatyard, its sister property.

OUR OPINION:

Located in a prime residential area of Fort Kochi, mostly populated with colonial buildings, the Eighth Bastion is an elegant, smartly run boutique hotel and we love the spacious rooms, pleasant swimming pool and courtyard dining.

Rooms

Eighth Bastion has 19 light, modern rooms that are decorated with colonial touches, and have well-appointed en suite bathrooms. There are three options, ranging from simple, cozy rooms to larger spaces with private verandas and terraces. Some rooms have partial sea views, and others have bathtubs.

Location

Eighth Bastion is located almost directly opposite the Dutch Cemetery in the heart of Fort Cochin, on a plot that has seen plenty of regeneration from various nations since the 1700s. The hotel is around 90 minutes from the airport.

Food and drink

Dine in the hotel’s small restaurant, which serves fusion cuisine with Indo-Dutch influences. Fresh traditional bread is offered from a local bakery, and there are plenty of options for vegetarians and meat eaters alike.
