Castello di Guarene

Castello di Guarene

Piedmont, Italy

Castello di Guarene has been the symbol of the city of Guarene since the early 18th century, thanks in part to its strategic location on the hilltop and its grand gardens. Upon being built, its primary purpose was to protect and control the surrounding territory. It has since lost its main function, but has been renovated into a wonderful hotel, museum and restaurant.

The property has maintained its original charm and character, with decorative architectural elements. You can unwind in its medieval living room, browse books in its extensive library, or follow an ancient escape tunnel leading to the spa and swimming pool.

The 15 rooms reflect the elegant style of the castle. Most have golden headboards, refined furnishings from the period, marble bathrooms and old paintings. Breakfast is served in a hall covered with frescoes and has outdoor seating on a terrace for the summer months. The restaurant at Castello di Guarene serves traditional Piedmontese dishes with locally grown ingredients and wine from the Roero hills.

OUR OPINION:

We love this hotel for delivering an exclusive, luxurious experience, as well as its location in a historical castle in the midst of the Piedmontese countryside. Its intricate designs and period furnishings add to its sense of history and grandeur.

Rooms

Most of the 15 rooms are on the ground floor, close to the impressive gardens which surround the property. All the rooms and suites have original floor tiling and frescoes throughout. With headboards on the beds, period furniture, marble bathrooms, traditional silk rugs and tapestries, the castle's feeling of grandeur hasn't faded. Alongside this sense of history you still have all modern comforts and conveniences, such as air conditioning and internet connection.

Location

The hotel is located in the greater Langhe region of the Piedmontese countryside, in the town of Guarene, where highly-quality wine is produced. Guarene is just 45 km (28 miles) from Turin and 50 km (31 miles) from the larger village of Cuneo. The Castello di Guarene is located within a 15-minute drive of the nearby town of Alba. Barolo, La Morra, Monforte D’Alba, Barbaresco and Neive are also all just a short drive away and are worth a visit.

Food and drink

The hotel's restaurant focuses on using only locally grown products to produce traditional Piedmontese dishes. Semi-formal clothing is required to match the fine-dining atmosphere. The medieval-style dining hall is adorned with original landscape paintings and fresh flowers. Complete your meal with a glass of wine produced from the surrounding territory.

Facilities and activities

During your stay at Castello di Guarene, you can make use of the indoor swimming pool, set within cave-like rocks with views of the surrounding hills. There's also a wellness area offering a variety of spa treatments and massages. Here you'll also find a Finnish sauna, hammam, steam bath and Jacuzzi.

Access to the wellness area at the Castello di Guarene can be paid locally.
