The Gritti Palace

Venice, Italy

The lobby in itself is an excellent depiction of this hotel’s quiet and intimate grandeur, with its low ceilings and small reception rooms that lead on to even more charming little hideaways, all filled with antique furnishings and paintings. You instantly feel as if you are in a private home rather than a large, busy five-star hotel.

The bar and restaurant are both right on the riverfront with outdoor seating overlooking the Grand Canal.

OUR OPINION:

A landmark hotel for those who want to experience a slice of history without compromising on luxury, views and comfort. Accessible by land and private water taxi, this is one of our most popular hotels.

Rooms

The rooms are all elegantly decorated in the traditional Venetian style, with glass chandeliers and antique furnishings. The Gritti has achieved a wonderful balance between the past and present without being overbearing. All the rooms have lovely big windows overlooking either the Grand Canal, a narrow gondola-lined smaller canal or the square behind. Most rooms have both a shower and a bath in an exquisite en suite with floor to ceiling marble.

Location

On the other side of the building is the small Campo San Maria del Giglio, and the hotel has an entrance leading onto this. From here, you can easily explore all the main historical sites of Venice on foot, whilst also being very close to a vaporetto stop providing access to the more dispersed city sights.

Food and drink

Bar Longhi displays paintings by the Venetian artist as well as a plethora of antiques and Murano glasswork. With chairs both indoors and on the terrace, this is a fantastic spot to begin your Venetian experience either with breakfast or later for an apéritif. Restaurant Club del Doge offers lunch and dinner with excellent views over the Grand Canal toward Santa Maria della Salute Church.
