Le Sirenuse

Le Sirenuse

The Amalfi Coast, Italy

Centrally set halfway up the hill, Le Sirenuse is elevated enough to afford remarkable sea views. Its burnt red exterior and white contours are now an iconic sight in the town, and the interiors are just as distinctive.

Upon entering the hotel, you’ll notice the careful design, crafted by the same Sersale family who owned it as a private villa before its transformation in 1951. Today, it remains under the same management who take exceptional pride in every facet of its success.

OUR OPINION:

Le Sirenuse never fails to amaze us. It’s the most luxurious and historic five-star property in central Positano, but still manages to maintain an intimate, homely atmosphere. A delightful base for any Amalfi Coast experience.

Rooms

Each room has its own distinct shape and size, such is the nature of staying in a family’s characterful villa rather than in a purpose-built hotel. The rooms are furnished with original antique furniture, carefully tended orchids and expertly chosen fabrics from around Italy and from the Far East. Most of the rooms have balconies with views on to the sea and the golden dome of the church of Santa Maria Assunta. Bathrooms are lined with marble and handmade tiles, all with Jacuzzis, separate showers and signature beauty products from Eau d’Italie, designed by the Sersale family themselves.

Location

Unlike many hotels in Positano, Le Sirenuse has road access, meaning you can drop off your luggage on arrival without needing a porter. From here, you can get down to the shore with ease. Walking into the central, pedestrianized part of town takes 10 to 15 minutes. Sorrento is 45 minutes’ drive away and Capri island is 50 minutes by high speed ferry.

Food and drink

The Michelin starred La Sponda serves exquisite dishes, inspired by the coast. Each evening, its terrace becomes an incandescent stage, illuminated by 400 candles. The Champagne Bar & Grill overlooks the town and is a great spot for an aperitivo. Franco’s Bar is a fun alternative, showcasing a vibrant collection of modern art. Finally, there’s the Pool Bar, open every afternoon.

Facilities and activities

There’s a long swimming pool to cool off in as well as the spa and gym with sauna and steam room. The hotel’s complimentary private boat sails twice a day along the coast and includes time to stop and dive into the water.
