Tumaren Tented Camp

Tumaren Tented Camp is part of the Karisia Walking Safaris collection, offering a permanent base from which to explore the beautiful Karisia Hills in Laikipia. Instead of doing a three or five day (or longer) walking safari, staying in different camps each night, Tumaren offers a similar experience without moving location. You still enjoy the adventurous spirit of a mobile safari and the tents are simple and very much back to basics.

Each tent has a bedroll, mattress and pillows, table and chair to the front, towels, lights and bottled drinking water. On the veranda of each is a basin where warm water is brought in a jug to wash your face and hands. Bucket showers are shared but have plentiful hot water available and there are private toilets available too — although not en suite.

Meals are served alfresco under the shade of a tree or beneath the stars, and are hearty home-cooked dishes which are impressively created at the simple camp kitchen.

Activities focus on exploring the area on foot, accompanied by a Samburu guide and tracker, and accompanied by camels. This is a wonderful way to explore areas far from the beaten track, away from roads and vehicles, and take in the wide open spaces that Laikipia is famed for.
