The trip leaves Maroantsetra after breakfast and guests take a boat for around 40 minutes before wading to shore on the beautiful Nosy Mangabe. Walks on the island take around two hours on fairly uneven paths. Do let your guide know how adventurous you are and they will pick a route accordingly.
Keep an eye out for the handsome black and white ruffed lemurs high up in the trees as well as the huge amount of smaller wildlife on the ground among the leaf-litter. Here you will find crabs, frogs, millipedes and tiny chameleons. You may visit some waterfalls and sacred tombs as part of your walk before heading to the campsite for lunch.
The walking here is excellent but you will need good sturdy shoes, lots of insect repellent and water as it can get very humid.
